A new upscale restaurant in Houston needed a patio that felt designed—not like an open patch of sidewalk with tables. Geranium Street installed artificial boxwood hedge barriers mounted to custom plates drilled into concrete, giving the space clear edges, better flow, and fewer people cutting through the seating.

Understanding the Problem

The client wanted the patio to work as real dining space, not just extra tables outside. Without a clear visual and physical edge, people naturally drift through the patio, which throws off diners and staff. The setup needed to feel fixed in place—temporary stanchions or light planters can slide, tip, or look like a stopgap.

We suggested artificial boxwood hedges as a straightforward way to create a clean boundary without adding watering, trimming, or leaf cleanup. Since the patio was concrete and the barriers needed to stay steady, we planned a mounted install with custom plates drilled into the concrete.

We started by marking the patio edges and choosing where the hedge barrier would do the most work—directing foot traffic, protecting seating areas, and making the entry points obvious. We drilled custom plates into the concrete and secured them to create a solid base, then mounted the artificial boxwood hedge panels.
